COLOSSEUM LOCATION

The Colosseum is located at Piazza del Colosseo, so it can be easily accessed from central Rome by foot or by public transportation. Alternatively, you can take the subway (line B), the tram (line 3) or the bus (number 75). Please remember to purchase your transport ticket in advance and to validate it as soon as you board. Tickets can be purchased at tobacco shops (also known as “tabacchi ”).

COLOSSEUM OPENING HOURS 2021 / 2022

The Colosseum is open every day except the 25th of December and the 1st of January, although the hours vary based on the season. Even though it is not officially noted, the Colosseum closes early on Good Friday for the Via Crucis or Way of the Cross Ceremony led by the Pope. Also, these hours apply to the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, and the Imperial Forum.

  • From 2 January to 28 February: 09.00 – 16.30
  • From 1 to 26 March: 09.00 – 17.30
  • From 27 March to 31 August: 09.00 – 19.15
  • From 1 September to 30 September: 09.00 – 19.00
  • From 1 to 30 October: 09.00 – 18.30
  • From 31 October to 31 December: 09.00 – 15.30

The last admission is one hour before closing. You need at least an hour to visit the Colosseum alone, so this is not recommended.

How to Get to the Colosseum?

By Public Transport

Metro – A metro station is located near the Colosseum – Colosseo. You can reach Colosseo station by taking line B. It takes 2 to 4 minutes to walk to the Colosseum entrance.

Tram – Alternatively, you can take a tram to the Colosseum. Use lines 3 or 8 to reach the Piazza del Colosseo stop.

Bus – You can reach the Colosseum by bus by boarding either bus number 40, 60, or 75 at the Piazza del Colosseo stop. Within 5 minutes, you will reach the Colosseum’s entrance.


By Car

Here are a few nearby paid parking spots if you’re driving to the Colosseum. From each of these parking lots, you can walk to the entrance.
